About the Forum
Theewaterskloof Ward 2 Business Forum is the anchoring organisation for
the Valley of Grace's revitalisation strategy. Our Mission is to turn what this valley already has into a regenerative tourism economy that benefits
every living thing in our Valley of Grace.

History & Heritage
Founded in 1738, Genadendal is the oldest Moravian mission village in South Africa. By 1788, it was the second largest settlement in the Cape Colony.
The vibrant market town attracted outside interest and by 1795, Hendrik Cloete of Groot Constantia became the very first investor in the valley by acquiring Weltevreden farm. His early investment became the current site of Greyton.

Food Sovereignty
Properties in both Genadendal and Greyton feature exceptionally deep erven to accommodate small-scale farming, self-sufficiency, and livestock as dictated by the original Moravian communal living model. Both towns feature a functional historical leiwater (furrow irrigation) system crisscrossing the streetscapes, used to water gardens and large plots. The valley's infrastructure offers valuable safeguards against global food supply chain fragility.

Regenerative Tourism
The global responsible tourism market is valued at US$250 billion (2025). The Western Cape's two largest overseas source markets, Germany (23% of international arrivals) and the United Kingdom (20%), are Europe's largest responsible travel markets. The WC government plans to double international arrivals by 2030. 43% of international travelers claim they are willing to invest more in experiences that have a real benefit for the environment. A community-authored, nature-positive heritage experience gives these travellers a distinctive product the province currently lacks.

A 30k Strong Community
The valley's ≈30,000 residents have roots in artisanal craft, teaching, farming, conservation, animal husbandry, sustainability, and hospitality. Greyton already draws visitors year-round. Her permanent residents include an abnormally high concentration of individuals with a deep concern for the planet and all living creatures that call her home.
Genadendal holds craft and agricultural knowledge that's at least three centuries old. These assets have never before been connected into a single visitor experience. Until now.

Stakeholders' Compact
A Public-Private-Community Partnership agreement that defines the relationship between business, the municipality, and the community bodies responsible for land and governance in the Ward. The proposed Compact is aligned with CoGTA's Small Town Regeneration Strategy, which provides national policy support for community-initiated intervention.

Destination Management Plan
Our DMP positions the valley as a Bioregional Learning destination for national and international visitors interested in small-town regeneration, ecological restoration, citizen science, and personal transformation.

Producers' Cooperative
Our valley already grows and processes agricultural products. We also have a small collection of artisans. What we currently lack is a cooperative that gives small-scale and emerging producers access to shared infrastructure, branding, distribution, and markets they cannot reach individually.

W2BF represents for-profit and non-profit entities in Genadendal, Greyton, Bereaville, Voorstekraal, Boschmanskloof, Heuwelkroon, and Madiba Park. These settlements make up Ward 2, Theewaterskloof Municipality, Western Cape.
We proudly welcome visitors into our home, and our brand: The Valley of Grace, where garden-centered slow living meets documented community transformation, in a UNESCO-recognized biodiversity hotspot, governed by the people who live there.
